I get asked an awful lot why I enjoy this city so much. Living in a big metropolis can be extremely fun when you are looking for things to do, but it can also be over-stimulating and too fast-paced.
Luckily, Denver is big enough to provide you with all of the amenities that come with urban living but small enough not to give you an overwhelming feeling of people living on top of each other. I've enjoyed my time living in Denver so far because it has allowed me to have a wonderful social life and also have the opportunity to relax and reconnect with myself.
Living in Denver has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. From the breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains to the vibrant culture and outdoor activities, my heart is full of love for this city. After making it my permanent home, I've fallen head-over-heels in love with this beautiful place.
I love it here for many reasons, which is why I decided to put together this list of my 8 favorite reasons.
1. Transportation Is Reliable
Denver has a well-tested public transportation system that makes the city very efficient. The bus system isn't as advanced as some of the other large cities in America, but it is on par with most comparable-sized cities around the country.
As in any city, some areas of town aren't very walkable, so having a car will ensure you can get where you need to go efficiently.
2. We Have So Many Amazing Parks
Every day, I am reminded of the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. Whether I am out for a morning walk or taking a Sunday drive, I am awed by their majestic presence. The mountains provide me with a sense of peace that I don't find anywhere else. Denver is the perfect place for an adventure. There's something for everyone to explore.
Denver is home to many beautiful parks and outdoor spaces. Whether you're looking to relax, play sports, or have a picnic, there's something for everyone.
Over 200 parks are managed by the Denver Mountain Parks system, and they're all open for residents and visitors to enjoy.
The city has done a remarkable job of acquiring enough land for parks and trails. And with so many different types of terrain, there's almost always somewhere new to explore in Colorado's Front Range.
3. We Are A Bicycle-Friendly City
Denver is extremely bicycle-friendly, especially when it comes to commuting. There are also bike-sharing programs, bike racks available throughout the city, and plenty of bike-friendly streets, making it easy and safe for cyclists to get around.
And it's up to the residents of Colorado to preserve that status and make sure we continue to grow in that direction. We have over 200 miles of bike paths and protected bike lanes, and we have a thriving cyclist community.
There is even a city-designated office called the Denver Bike-n-Ride program that helps direct cyclists to safe places to park their bikes around town.
4. We're A Beer Town
Colorado is known for being America's Napa Valley of Beer, and we're very proud of that. We have more than 150 breweries in Colorado and some truly remarkable microbreweries.
Denver is one of the most beer-friendly cities in the world. With so many craft beers to sample and explore, you'll never run out of options!
Breweries like New Belgium Brewing Company and Great Divide Brewery are nationally recognized right here in our backyard. So be sure to check them out when visiting Denver!
5. Dining Abounds
Denver is a foodie paradise. From trendy new restaurants to classic favorites, there's something for everyone. I especially love the farm-to-table options that are plentiful in the area.
It is home to thousands of restaurants, which means you can find some incredible cuisine around town. And if you're looking for something different, the city has numerous food trucks that stop in different locations throughout the week.
From Mexican to Greek and everything in between, there's no shortage of places to eat when living in Denver.
6. We Are A Culture Destination
Denver is home to some of the best museums, art galleries, and theater companies in the country. Whether you're looking for history, art, music, or something else, you'll find it here.
It has a thriving cultural scene, with over 50 theater companies and several museums throughout the city.
The Denver Performing Arts Complex is one of the top venues in the country, featuring the Denver Center for Performing Arts; which is home to Broadway productions, Opera Colorado, and other popular theatrical productions.
7. We Have Great Skiing In The Mountains
Denver is located about an hour from some of the best ski resorts in Colorado, including Vail Mountain and Arapahoe Basin, which is where I learned to ski as a child!
The city has three major skiing areas within a short drive of downtown: Loveland Ski Area, Arapahoe Basin, and the world-famous Vail Mountain.
Whether you're an experienced skier or just a beginner, you'll be able to find something enjoyable to do in the mountains.
8. We Are An Outdoor Town
Denver residents are never more than a short drive away from some of the best hiking trails around.
We have 300 days of sunshine each year, giving you ample opportunity to get outside and enjoy whatever your favorite outdoor activity is. Whether it's fishing, rock climbing, biking, or skiing in the wintertime, you can't go wrong with Colorado!
Bonus: The Housing Market
Denver's housing market is incredibly stable and growing compared to many other major metropolitan areas in America. The city has a thriving job market that keeps the economy moving, which helps maintain our favorable economic conditions.
And because of the state's legal marijuana laws, many professionals have moved here to take advantage of the thriving cannabis industry.
This makes it easy for millennials and professionals alike to find work and build a life in Denver while still spending money left over at the end of the month.
Bottom Line
