When most people think of Colorado, they envision Rocky Mountain peaks, snow-capped slopes, and world-renowned ski resorts. But the state has much more to offer than just winter sports. The Front Range of Colorado is home to thriving cities like Denver, Boulder, and Arvada.

The city is home to several art galleries, museums, and historical sites. Arvada is an ideal place to live for those who want the best of both worlds - a small-town feel with all the amenities of a big city.

If you're thinking of moving to Arvada, here's what you need to know about the city's history.

A dive into the history of Arvada, Colorado and how it became the thriving city it is today

Once upon a time, the area now known as Arvada, Colorado, was nothing more than an open prairie. That all changed in 1850 when gold was discovered along Ralston Creek. The news of the discovery quickly spread, and prospectors from all over the country soon descended on the area in search of their fortune.

Lewis Ralston, the man who first discovered gold in the area, soon left for California. But he would return in 1858 as a guide for a group of gold seekers. Ralston Creek was named after him, and the small mining settlement that sprang up along its banks would eventually become the city of Arvada.

The city officially got its start in 1870 when the Colorado Central Railroad reached the area. The railroad brought with it new settlers and businesses, and a leading citizen by the name of Benjamin F. Wadsworth asked his wife, Mary Ann, to name the new community. She chose the name Arvada in honor of her sister's husband, Hiram Arvada Haskin.

By 1904, the city had grown enough to warrant incorporation. Since then, Arvada has continued to grow and thrive. The city is now home to more than 123,000 residents and is a thriving community with a small-town feel.
